This Cancer Drug Could Cure Male Pattern Baldness

Cancer drugs have many side effects - vomiting, weakness, chills - but one drug may actually remedy male pattern baldness. At Columbia University, scientists found that some JAK inhibitors actually reverse hair loss, growing hair out of thin air. The drug is typically used with rheumatoid arthritis and blood cancer patients.

Unexpectedly, the topical treatment actually inhibits the compound that puts hair in a resting stage. Therefore, the follicles have more time to grow hair longer and thicker. "There are very few compounds that can push hair follicles into their growth cycle so quickly," said Dr. Angela Christiano. "Some topical agents induce tufts of hair here and there after a few weeks, but very few have such a potent and rapid-acting effect."

We don't pretend to understand all the science behind this discovery, but the important thing to know: a hair-growth solution could be coming soon. This is the perfect example of a happy accident.
